Isrealis Bombed Syrian Reactor

The Bush administration charged Thursday that a secret Syrian nuclear reactor was within weeks or months of completion before Israel bombed it on Sept. 6 and demanded that North Korea and Syria publicly acknowledge their collusion on a facility that could have produced plutonium for a nuclear weapon.

Back in September, everything was on the QT. In October, the Syrians used a controlled demolition to clear the site. In doing so, they exposed reactor components to U.S. spy satellites. Whoops.

The Bush administration didn't go public at the time at the request of the Israelis who feared a counterstrike. The U.S. State Department then used this fact successfully to compel the Koreans to abandon their nuclear program.

Hurray for our side!

President Bush has received criticism from Congress who side with the Syrians.

Rep. Silvestre Reyes (D-Tex.), chairman of the House Permanent Select Committee on Intelligence, charged Thursday that the administration had improperly imposed a "veil of secrecy" around intelligence it was required to share with the oversight committees.

In a statement, the Syrian Embassy in Washington denounced the U.S. claims as "false allegations" designed to "misguide" Congress and international public opinion and produce support for Israel's surprise air strike in September, "which the U.S. administration may have helped execute."

WTF? Syrian WMD's?

Israel attacked Syria and it would've never made the news if not for the Turks finding some F-15 drop tanks in their desert.


The big question is what did the Israelis hit?

Snippets of stories are coming out and rumors abound. I'll put my money on nukes. WMD's from North Korea, who now conveniently want to disarm.

Heard on either Fox or CNN today that the weapons were marked "cement" and the Israelis tracked the shipment from North Korea to Syria. Then they blew them up.

Syria is being rather quiet on the issue. Shouldn't they be dragging a "Baby Milk Factory" or such in front of the cameras and decrying loudly for the U.N. to condemn Israel?

President Bush held a news conference today saying that the White House had advanced knowledge of the air strike and approved of it. Beyond that the press got a big fat "No Comment".

The Democrats should be screaming any minute and won't wake up to the threat until one of our cities evaporates.

Russia has been flying "Routine Patrols" off of our shores and those of our NATO allies. In the light of the Israeli response, could they have been tipped off too and are hedging their bet?

The silence is deafening.

Pelosi Flies to Syria

Did not Rudolph Hess fly to England in World War Two to try and negotiate a separate Peace with the Allies? He wound up with a life sentence didn't he?

Oh my the Times are changing.

The Constitution provides the Legislature with the power to ratify treaties. Treaties which the Executive Branch has secured. It is the Executive Branch that the Constitution grants the power to conduct diplomacy with the President as Chief Diplomat.

It this capacity the President can send forth anyone he wishes to conduct such diplomacy. Witness trips by Jesse Jackson, Jimmy Carter and others who have been dispatched by the President to act in his behest.

Reactions by President Bush clearly indicate that these mechanisms were not in play for the Pelosi junket.

Nancy Pelosi took an oath of office to protect and defend the Constitution and yet she continues to fly in the face of it.

Pelosi say that the Democrats were elected with a mandate from the People. Fair enough. A mandate to express the views of the electorate to the Executive Branch. Not a mandate to execute foreign policy on her own.
